Class Overview: Want to learn to make your own bra? Our two day bra class attracts students from around the world - and no wonder! This is one of the best classes you will ever take. We say "if you can set in a sleeve, you can sew a bra". WE do the fitting and YOU do the sewing. Our beginner bra pattern is first fitted to your unique body - we alter the pattern for you - then we teach all the professional bra - making techniques.

Class: Pattern Alterations & Body Measurements for the Right Fit

Class Overview: In this hands-on workshop, you will learn to identify the fitting problems and how to solve them. Ron will show you how to correct fitting problems regarding sloping and square shoulders, large bust, high and low bust, removal of bust dart, broad and upper back, sway back or down-sloping back waistline, large upper arm, tight armholes, flat seat, and many more. We will also take 28 body measurements for you: high bust, low bust, shoulder width, sleeve length, back waist length, pant and skirt length...plus more...a total of 28 body measurements. Every student will have an alteration package to take home with them showing all the alterations that they have done. Ron will give you the inside answer on what pattern companies run larger and which ones tend to run true to measurements. He will also explain how much wearing ease you need in all garments from close fitting, fitted, semi fitted, loose fitted, and very loose fitted. Take the guess work out of trying to choose what size garment by finding the "finished garment measurements" and not using the sizes on the back of the pattern envelope. See the difference in sizing charts in major pattern companies and how to choose the right size for you and how to avoid disappointment in fitting.

Class Overview: Three days with Ron Collins for the ultimate fitting retreat. Is fitting your nemesis? Bring your favourite patterns and muslins and let's start fitting. Go home with patterns altered just for you. We will size out your pattern, identify your fitting problems, adjust the pattern, cut out the garment from scrap fabric or muslin, sew the fitting shell and refine the fit, then alterations will be transferred to your pattern. You can bring patterns for jackets, pants, tops, jeans, outerwear...whatever you want and whatever fabric you want to make them in...woven, stretch woven or knits. With Ron by your side, you will overcome those trouble spots in fit.

Class Overview: A two day workshop where students will play with all things glittery. The goal is to offer students new methods of glitzing up their quilted pieces by playing with all sorts of glittery products. Class Overview: Learn how to make your own silk screen (materials provided), with simple materials and using acrylic or fabric paints. Make this seemingly 'out of reach' method of printing accessible to everyone - even use it with kids. Prepare one (or several) silk screen(s) and print your fabric. Make a small art quilt from printed fabric or print on fabric for a garment.

Class Overview: What better year to make maple leaves than 2017 when we're celebrating Canada's 150th birthday? In this class you will use your machine to create individual maple leaves that will be pieced, stitched, edge stitched, and wired so they can be manipulated and shaped. The leaves are then put on to a background to make your own one of a kind wallhanging.

Class Overview: Dimension and texture on a quilt or garment creates interest and visual appeal. Using household supplies, sewing supplies, and your sewing machine, you will make textured reference samples for future projects. Class Overview: This is a hands-on class to learn the Artistic Simple Cut software as well as how to use the many different cutting possibilities the Artistic Edge 15 Digital cutter opens up for us in our sewing/crafting rooms. Liz is adamant that she will never do applique the "old" way again (lightbox, tracing, fiddly cutting with scissors). The Artistic Edge is so much easier and quicker! Learn how to turn embroidery designs into appliques to cut with the cutter in a few minutes and then applique-in-the-hoop with the pre-cut shape - also in a fraction of the time. Learn how to scan your applique patterns/books to sue with Simple cut and the Edge cutter: Like having air con in your car - you will never go back to the old way! Liz will cover all 5 techniques in the software from cutting, embroidery, stencils, crystals, and drawing, or painting with your cutter to actually cutting out various types of materials to grow your Edge Cutter skills as you compile a comprehensive binder of notes: Detailed notes and software exercises will be supplied to you electronically. Class: Lace and Household Textiles Transformed

Class Overview: Laces may be 1cm wide trim or 150cm wide fabric. Laces, both new and vintage types, may be sewn together into a collage to make a new piece of fabric. Laces often have a scalloped edge along one edge or Lace may be a table cloth. Laces may be stretchy for camisoles and sleeves of Blouses. Lace may be for home decoration. The best thing is that Lace is easy to sew! Jan will teach how to make a lined lace skirt, with easy beautiful finishing, all with the sewing machine straight stitch. The fun in using lace is to try something unique and unexpected. Then we add household textiles to the class and we add more design potential. Household textiles may be a chenille bedspread, crochet pieces, embroidered table linens, simple cotton table cloths, towels and so on. From all these amazing textiles we will create new design pieces. So, open your drawers, search your closets, scour the second hand stores, come to class with treasures and any complimentary fabrics too. Jan will bring treasures to share. Let's use things that have been folded and neatly tucked away for new designs of clothing or home decoration.

Class Overview: The "Kimono" is one of Jan's Classic design shapes from "Lingerie Secrets" patterns. The Kimono is created from rectangular shapes and when worn, has an elegance and unique drape. The "Kimono" may be any length, may be made in any weight of woven fabric and has 3 sleeve variations. The "Kimono" may be an 'after-shower' robe, a perfect house coat over PJs, your favourite cardigan, a simple jacket, or even the most glamorous piece of evening wear! The Kimono style works for men too. Matching robes...mmm! In this class you will trace your pattern, cut and sew your "Kimono" and gain experience with your fabric choice. You will learn pattern preparation, fabric layout techniques, methods for successfully sewing seams, Jan's knotted band detail, finishing edges, optional curved hemming edges, great techniques for lining sleeves and many other helpful ideas to add to your sewing joy! Each student will work from Jan's pattern "The Kimono" (multisized S to XL4). This is a busy, fascinating class with many things to see, learn, and DO!

Class Overview: You can have it all...clothing that is comfortable, stylish, and functional. We will work with knit fabrics and make any of the following designs: yoga pants, leggings, shelf bra camisole, bike short style bottoms (and any other designs that you choose too). Bring fabrics, notions, and patterns and Jan will help you decide on good combinations and the correct pattern size. Jan's Lingerie Secrets patterns, Jalie patterns, and others are places to look for ideas. For part of the first half day, each student will make a sample book to take home for future reference. Included will be techniques for handling all knit fabrics, including two way stretch fabrics, binding methods, edge finishes, many elastic uses, and simply the best techniques for sewing seams on regular sewing machines or sergers. Then for 1 1/2 days, we will create your design choices with Jan to guide and help. All the results will be grand!

Class Overview: This unusual scrap quilt was designed by Jen Kingwell of Australia. It contains many simple pieced blocks, set in a strippy background. The colours may be totally random in selection, or you can organize your stash for a more planned look. Students will spend more time playing with colour than sewing, as the stitching is very straight forward. Half square and quarter square rulers can be used for cutting many of the patterns for the blocks. This quilt is sure to diminish your scrap stash.

Class Overview: If you have never tried knitting with dpns or circular needles, have experienced difficulties or would simply like to try some new ideas, this is your chance. Dpns are ideal for socks, mittens, and other small portable projects. Discover how to cast on without twists, slip stitches at high speed, keep track of your stitches, and work without ladders at the corners. Look at the many types of needles available and how they would suit your knitting style. Learn I-cord and other uses of dpns. Practice using one long or two circular needles in addition to or instead of straight dpns. Also learn the advantages of working flat fabrics on dpns.

Class Overview: You have two hands? Get both of them working for you, with a yarn in each. We'll look at the relative merits of operating your yarn with either hand and how to weave in either of the yarns at the back of the work without ever tangling or letting go of the yarns. Discussion about the differing gauges given by the different styles of stranding and colour dominance issues. How to convert flat designs to circular to utilize this technique. Although we will deal mainly with the knit stitch, the left-hand purl will be discussed and practiced if desired. Additionally, we will look at needle attributes, flat 'circular' swatching and planning for cutting your knitting with or without a steek.

Class Overview: Cutting your knitting is a liberating experience! It really isn't scary. It offers many benefits and opens up new construction and design possibilities. What exactly are steeks? Whilst knitting a sample with centre front and armhole steeks we will discuss suitable yarns and how to plan for cutting. We will practice fully fashioned shapings, use of markers and securing methods. We look at possibilities for disaster management, adapting armholes and necks for cutting, making mixed gauge fabrics fit, and Siamese sleeves. For our finale we will make the first incision.

Class Overview: Make a voyage of discovery to achieve a deeper understanding of your knitting! Try a variety of types of Double Knitting to produce two-layer fabrics. Start with tubular knitting on straight needles, then do open and condensed bind-off methods and the magnificent double knit pocket trick. Using two yarns, we will introduce positive/negative DK colour patterning techniques and quilting for added texture and warmth.

Class Overview: Make an exploratory journey into other realms of Double Knitting (which producers two-layer fabrics). We will begin with tubes within tubes, worked in the round, initially with a single yarn, two yarns, and then with colour patterning. We will look at different ways to handle the yarns for maximum efficiency and how to incorporate shaping into double fabrics, topped off with tubular bind-off. These techniques are suited to ultra warm mittens and cozy lined socks.

In this class we will go over several different binding options from simple to sublime. You will be making samples of each so you understand them. Class Overview: Students will make samples of many different quilting ideas that can be executed on the home sewing machine with the feed dogs up. Not everyone can afford a longarm quilter and not everyone enjoys free motion quilting. This class is another alternative. Students will go home with samples for future reference that they can use to incorporate into their own quilts. We make small samples but there will be lots of discussion on quilting all sizes of quilts.
